Open Water Practice this Sat 9/9
Hi all,
What a great first day of practice, it was awesome to see our team in the water! For those who are curious about open water swimming, there is a practice this Saturday in Aquatic Park, SF hosted by Coach Tim of the Pacifica Sea Lions. It's a great opportunity to try out open water or get some more practice in it!
If you're interested in attending, please see below from Coach Tim. I won't be able to make it, but you're in good hands with Coach Tim! If you have questions or want to borrow a wetsuit, you can contact him at: tim@pacificasealions.org
There'll be another open water practice on 10/14, then a break for the winter and more practices will resume in the spring. And then there will be open water races/meets available in the summer. Shoutout to Charlotte K, who just participated in the Del Valle lake race!
From Coach Tim:
Please join us next Saturday Sept. 9 as we return to San Francisco's Aquatic Park. Chances are great that the weather will be nice and the water is warming up. We have yet to have any problems with hypothermic swimmers, and we have even seen surprising amounts of no-wetsuit swimming, usually at the end of each training.
SCHEDULE:
9:00-9:15- check-in
9:00-9:30- Dryland Warm up
9:30- first splash, group kick! (Bring kick board and fins)
11:00 hard cut-off
FORMAT:
Aquathon-style: we will establish courses, and swimmers can choose what they swim and how many laps they accomplish. We will keep a lap count for each swimmer, across the entire season. Our final swim of the season at Aquatic Park on Oct. 14 will be potluck and awards for top 3 achievers in 3 age groups; 11un, 12-14, 15up.
SWIM COURSES:
1. First Bouy out and back. At the very least, we can safely provide the 50 meter swim to the first bouy and back and everyone can swim laps on this.
2. Full Bouy Line (560 meters): we need several Paddlers, at least 1 stand-up, and 2-5 prone paddlers to cover the bouy line. Depending on how many we have, we can cover part or all of the Buoy line.
3. Bouy line - Beach run circuit.
We will continue to keep tally of how many bouys swimmers are passing. Current bouy totals can be viewed here, full results will be available on Sept 9.
